Famous Last Words: Almost There

I started out really strong in this class, and for that I’m so thankful. It’s definitely paying off right now! It seems that as the semester comes to a close, I’m flying through course work for other classes, struggling to stay afloat. That’s not to say that I’m doing bad in any class, because I’ve actually had a good semester (in good standing) for all classes thus far. I am trying to prepare myself for the next weeks to come. I’m preparing for very little sleep, a lot of stress, and a lot of work of course! But, isn’t that how it is nearing finals for every college student?

For this class in particular, I have been having a hard time with the assignments due early in the week. I have lab on Tuesday/Thursday’s, and we’re doing an independent project in there that requires me to be extremely prepared. Along with that, I have to work different days now at work, and some of those being Monday/Wednesday’s week to week, including my regular schedule.
I guess I’m just trying to pull through in all of my classes, and this is the only one that I have any sort of leeway with missing assignments.

As far as enjoyment goes, I’ve honestly enjoyed ALL of the reading for this class. I’ve really enjoyed the recent fairy tale units, because they are my absolute favorite! I’ve also enjoyed all the coursework in my other classes. I can finally understand how exciting it is to be in your upper division classes that are related to your major.

Anyways,

we are so close to the end of the semester that it’s a tad bit frightening! I plan to find time for the early week assignments (ahead of time), and finish as strong as I started the semester.

Famous Last Words: Another Crazy Week

Image result for ahead

First of all, I have had one crazy week in this class and two others last week. I ask myself how everything can just pick up so quickly after spring break, then I realize that this is college, and that’s how it always is. It’s not that I’ve been procrastinating this week at all, as I actually got more done than I thought was possible as the week went on.

In this class, I didn’t complete all of the assignments. I completed the first reading notes assignments, the project, blog comments, and project feedback. I was able to finish the week strong, but the beginning of the week was way too hectic to find time for the second reading notes and the storytelling. The storytelling is usually one of my favorite parts, so I was upset that I had to skip it this week. Since I had to skip some assignments this week, and I haven’t been keeping up with all of the project feedback in previous weeks, I have some catching up to do to finish before dead week. After I complete this assignment, I plan to complete the extra blog comments as well. I enjoy reading other skilled writer’s work in this class, and I think that it does contribute to my overall writing skills as well.

Overall, next week is also going to be extremely hard. I work every single day, and that’s something that I’m not used to. Because of that, I’m trying to plan ahead. I hope to find time to get ahead this weekend, so that I can allow myself to “chill out.” As long as I can find time to complete both reading notes this weekend, I should have time to write the story next week, and next weekend I’ll be able to catch up on the Sunday night deadlines for this class.

Part of having a growth mindset is to not let the negative parts of life get you down. So I’m determined that I can and will complete all of the work in this class to get the grade that I want, and deserve. I really enjoy this class, and I’ve learned a lot about time management along with mythfolklore. I’m excited for the rest of the semester still, and I’m also excited about the work that I’ve done thus far in this class. These are projects that I’ll be able to access forever since they’re online, so that’s cool as well.

Here’s to a new week and still trying to get ahead!

Famous Last Words: Swamped

One of these day’s I’ll be able to catch up in this class and get ahead. Looking forward at my upcoming schedule I’m not sure when, but maybe after two weeks.

For this class, I thought the reading was really interesting this week. I read about Native American marriage tales, and found that it was strange to read about animal and human relationships. I did really enjoy the strong cultural sense that each of the stories portrayed, and the strong structure that stuck throughout the duration of the tales. I was able to complete the readings for the week in ample time, but I was also swamped with much more work.
Unfortunately,  the next two weeks will probably be the roughest for me to finish the work in this class. I have an upcoming test on Wednesday, lab report on Thursday, along with many other homework assignments. The following week I sure hope I don’t have many major assignments based on what my work schedule looks like. I’ll be working that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The problem with that is that it doesn’t give me ample time to complete this class work alone, much less the addition of all my other classes.

In other classes this week, I’ve had a successful, yet busy week. I completed my lab report more efficiently than I originally though, as well as having time to prepare for the quiz that I took today in class. I’ve found that I’m so swamped with events in my life and school that I’m not sure how I’ve been able to complete the amount of assignments that I have.

Although the next few weeks will be tough, I know that I can complete most of the work. Since I’ve allowed myself some room for mistakes based on the amount of extra credit I’ve done, I’ll surely be able to maintain a good grade.

Famous Last Words: Break Over, Already?

Yes, school is once again back in session. That means no more Netflix nights or slacking. Here’s the part where I reflect back on the TWO weeks that we had to complete the assignments, and realize that I have not met my expectations once again. I completed all of the assignments besides the project feedback once again, and I’m hoping one of these weeks to actually fulfill ALL of the assignments. I’ve just been having such a hard time staying focused on school work lately, but I feel more rejuvenated after spring break.

Since last week was a review, I didn’t read any new material relative to class readings. I did have the chance to look back and reflect on how the semesters gone, as well as to re-visit the growth-mindset topic. I enjoyed having a week to kind of gather my thoughts again, and I realize that I have been slacking in school work.

Class is kicking back into gear, and I’m determined to get back with it. This week I want to complete all of the reading notes and storytelling early (today if possible), and then have the rest of the week to ponder on my project. If I complete the rest of my assignments early, then I should have time to give quality feedback to my peers on their project assignments.

I have a big test in one of my upper division MBIO classes coming up next week, so I’m going to try to get ahead in this class so that I don’t have to worry about it. I have a postlab assignment due tonight, independent project update due tomorrow night, and many other assignments that are all stacking up. I say stacking up, but I had plenty of time to get ahead before they got to this point. For that, I’m disappointed in myself. However, that just gives me more of an incentive to get ahead so thing’s do not add up as they have.

Famous Last Words: Almost Break Time

Image result for procrastination

Why is it that the closer it gets to spring break the easier it is for me to procrastinate? I’m so excited for spring break and I know that I have A LOT to get completed before on vacation, but for some reason I’m still procrastinating in a lot of areas. WHY? It’s so frustrating.

Anyways, I followed my plan for week 7 to complete both reading assignments on Monday and then complete the project on Wednesday. The problem is, I’m stuck at the end of the week and have no time to efficiently comment on students projects and be of great help to them. When commenting on projects I really try to pay 100% attention and give them the best advice possible, and since I don’t have enough time to fully devote this week, I’ll just once again try to be better next week.

My goals for week 8 include completing the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday assignments on Monday. I do have a lot going on Monday, so if I’m not able to complete them on Monday, I’ll have to hold off until Wednesday. I’ve looked ahead and seen that it’s a review week, and I definitely think that’s needed! For week 8, I’m going to try and complete multiple extra credit options to make up for the past two weeks of missing the project feedback, and this week missing the blog comments.

As far as other classes go, it’s remained about the same. I’m completing all of my work (though sometimes at the last minute). I have a presentation and a project both due on Wednesday that I need to complete tonight, and a lot of lab work to complete. It’s my own fault for procrastinating, and I’m hoping that after spring break I’m able to fully devote my time and not procrastinate. Although I’m going on vacation for spring break, it will also be used as a “catch up period.” Hopefully I can get ahead in my classes, as well as have ample time to study for the PCAT.

Famous Last Words: Getting Too Far Behind

Image result for don't give up quotes

It’s 10:16 on a Monday, and the week technically ended for week 6 assignments at midnight. So needless to say, I’m behind. I have yet to complete the project feedback, just as last week. Instead of completing the project feedback (since I have class soon and probably wouldn’t finish), I decided that I at least needed to do one extra credit assignment. I really need to get ahead this week, and I know I’ve said this every week, but being behind is really a struggle.

For this class, I barely had time to finish my assignments due on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, making it extremely hard to procrastinate and complete at the last minute with enjoyment. When I’m ahead I enjoy the material much more, as well as I’m able to write better stories and get more into the posts and readings.

It’s not only this class that I’m behind in, as I’m behind  in my lab class as well. I’m thinking my brain just might have kicked into spring break mode already, and the completion of schoolwork is seeming like a struggle. Or… maybe it’s the fact of being a senior, and as the semester draws closer to the end, I’m finding it harder to keep focused and stay ahead. Netflix is just seeming so great these days since I barely ever have any free time, but that’s college, right?

Anyways, I must set goals for week 7, since week 6 has been such a fail for my standards. In week 7 I plan to complete all of the reading on Monday, as well as hopefully start the story. On Wednesday, I plan to finish and post the story, and then view the project feedback for the week and try to get started on that (since I’ve yet to complete that assignment)! After that, I plan to either take another week to edit my introduction in my storybook, or begin the first story in it (which is what I’ll probably do).  Then Friday I will be able to focus on blog comments and maybe complete some extra credit so that I can catch back up where I’ve been slacking at. There’s no giving up. So here’s to sticking with it and not letting myself fall behind!

Famous Last Words: First Midterm

Image result for midterm exam

Well, I did it. I had my first unsuccessful week at staying ahead in this class. I had all of my reading and writing assignments finished through the story for this week the week prior. This gave me time to study for my exam on Wednesday, so yes, at first I was definitely ahead.
I planned to study a tremendous amount last weekend and then on Monday finish the assignments for this class. Tuesday I was going to work and then study, not having to complete any more work for this class until week 6. However, I had a lot going on over the weekend in my personal life, and studying took second to that. I would say I studied a maximum of 2 hours for my biggest test thus far in the semester over the weekend. Because of that, I had to devote all of Monday and Tuesday after work to studying.
Along with the assignments for this class, I also had multiple assignments due for lab class and my other upper division MBIO class.
With this going on, I’m just now getting around to completing the work for week 5. I’ve completed all of the assignments for this week, except for the project feedback, which I plan to complete tomorrow.
That being said, I’m ready to get ahead and stay ahead in this class again. I have multiple assignments due on Monday, but I’m going to try to get them completed early so that I can get ahead on Monday night, work Tuesday, then finish week 6 on Wednesday.
Thankfully I had a huge weight lifted off my shoulders when I received an A on the exam that I was able to find time to study for. This also tells me that I did well on the test due to the tremendous amount that I have been paying attention in class this semester. I really enjoy the lectures, understand what’s going on because of it, and put it forward into each and every new learning activity.
The semester is stressful, but getting better in my opinion. I’m excited to keep going strong this semester, and keep up with all of my assignments and work.

Famous Last Words: Keeping Up Good Work

Image result for too much to do

I know this assignment is for the end of the week, but I have completed all of the assignments for this week except for the blog comments, which will be completed when they’re available. This week has been tough so far, and it’s only Wednesday. Midterms and due dates are quickly coming up, which is enough to stress me out! I will admit that the growth-mindset memes and research that I’ve done some this semester have helped me to maintain a positive mind-set of growth.

In this class, I’m extremely proud of my progress. Thus far, I’ve been pretty good at staying ahead. For instance, after I complete this extra credit option, I will begin week 5 assignments. As far as reading went this week, I learned that fairy tales are really my favorite style that I’ve read this far. I’ve also enjoyed a lot of the different styles that writer’s in this class have been using. I really think it’s cool when they decide to voice a story as told by someone else. That’s something that I want to try and accomplish before the semester is over, at least one time.

Work is settling down to where I work Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is useful for me, because I know exactly when I work, and I have to schedule my time for classes around that. Work actually makes me less of a procrastinator. Sadly, if I didn’t have a job, I’d probably put many assignments off until the last minute.  Hopefully not anymore since I’ve learned from my past, but still. So I’m thankful for a job, and the motivation that it gives me to hurry and finish assignments as soon as possible. For this class, it hasn’t yet been a problem. Again, I really enjoy this class thus far. I enjoy reading different styles, but even more so, I love to create and write my own story. I’m extremely pumped about the story assignment! I can’t wait to see how everyone in the classes stories/portfolios turn out, and of course, I’m excited to see how mine turns out.

Looking forward, next week I have a ton of assignments due and a midterm in my hardest class on Wednesday. This is why I’m so happy that I’ve been keeping up and even staying ahead in this class. This gives me the leniency to only focus on my midterm Wednesday over the weekend. So as far as my goal for this week goes, it’s to finish many of next weeks assignments, especially those due Monday and Tuesday.

Famous Last Words: Goals Can be Met

Image result for goals

This week’s reading, I learned that I really like the fairy tale style the best. It’s just something that I really enjoy, and especially the addition of animals to many of the tales, so this week was a little different for me. My favorite writing for this week was my story, Heroic Mr. Hick. I’ve found that I really enjoy taking time out of my day to sit down and just write. I’m a very creative person, and having science as a major you can’t really use creativity to your advantage really often. That’s one of the many thing’s I enjoy about this class, the opportunity to let your imagination run wild!

As far as time management goes, I’m happy that I got my Monday/Tuesday readings done in week 2, or I would not have had time to complete those assignments. The first free time during the week I had was Wednesday, and completing the story on the actual day that it was due was kind of annoying to me, because I want to push myself to turn everything in early. I thought everything would calm down when I got into a set schedule, but unfortunately, things have only became more hectic. So here I am, trying to complete extra credit assignments and finish both readings for week 4 before the week begins. My philosophy is that if I stay ahead, everything will be easier for me.

With my other classes being upper division 4000 level MBIO courses, working at the Pharmacy, studying for the PCAT, and just everyday life errands, I’ve really got to stay ahead, or I’ll fall really behind. This week’s classes did go a lot better, however, and I’m finally getting into the swing of the actual courses I’m taking, and getting a feel for how much work each one will be.

My goal this semester is to work further on my time management, study more, and have a successful semester! My goal for this class that I’m setting for myself is to finish early. I hope that if I stay ahead and caught up, I can finish early with no stress!

Famous Last Words: Getting Better

Image result for thumbs up

This option as extra credit is one that I hope to keep up on doing. This will really allow me to see my thoughts on this class, other classes, and/or life in general as time goes along, and my progress within each . So to my future self, keep doing this extra credit!

This week, I feel that I am in a much better place mindset wise than last week. Yes it’s sad that the break had to end, but it’s time to get into the groove of things and get work done early so I’m less stressed. This means much less netflix, much more focusing, and more ways to stay motivated in school.

Class work wise, I actually skipped ahead and got the readings done for next week and already know what I want my story to be. I’ve found that the reading notes really do help me, and tuning in during reading is a great way to let your imagination roll at the “what ifs?” and such.  I had much fun with the story, and it’s actually my favorite writing I did this week. I really enjoy reading stories and letting my imagination take the story somewhere else, and writing about it.

For other classes, things are still very chaotic. This is because every class I am taking requires textbook reading, homeworks, discussions, quizzes, and I’m having a hard time adjusting to the time frames by which these are due. Again, when I get a set schedule and am able to get ahead in my planner, things will get MUCH better. I still think the classes I’m in are going to be very interesting and make for a great semester!

As far as time management goes, work is becoming more of a consistent Tuesday/Thursday schedule, giving me time to plan when I want/have time to do the work for this class. This is the main problem that I could and probably will face as the class progresses. I hope to keep up my “pace” and stay ahead a week at least with the readings. Since the readings are actually enjoyable to me, I don’t find it a “pain” at all to sit, read, and take notes.
